AC Milan Subject Inter to Record League Defeat
The result was Inter's worst-ever home defeat in Serie A and Milan's biggest league win over their local archrivals.
Milan's victory all but ended Inter's hopes of taking Italy's fourth Champions League qualification spot.
Milan took just three minutes to make their mark when Brazilian winger Serginho beat two men and found Comandini, who was making just his second start of the season and stabbed the ball home.
Comandini was on target again in the 19th minute with a superb, angled header from a pinpoint Serginho cross.
Federico Giunti put Milan 3-0 up with a free-kick in the 53rd minute before the devastating Serginho ripped apart the Inter defense once more and found Shevchenko at the back post for the Ukrainian to head home.
That prompted hundreds of Inter fans to leave the ground and one fan invaded the pitch, accosting Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta before being escorted away by police, Reuters reported.
But the misery was not over for the Inter fans who remained. Shevchenko made it 5-0 in the 78th minute, tapping home from close range after excellent work from his former Dynamo Kiev teammate Kakha Kaladze.
Fittingly it was Serginho, who had tormented Inter throughout the night, who added the final insult, surging through the middle and sliding the ball past Sebastien Frey to make it 6-0.
